Making progress

Thursday, January 3rd

9:00 AM - 9 miles, 60 min
Temp = 6, windchill = -9
Winchester loop w/ Rupprecht

So last night was the first time since Friday that I had tried running on this injury. It went fairly well so I was planning on going a little further today. When I woke up this morning, I was still sore but seemed to be feeling quite a bit better. I was hoping to get in about 6 miles with Rupprecht, knowing that the conditions were not going to be ideal (you know it's cold when you put the temperature in the training log). Despite the conditions, I actually felt pretty good and we ended up turning it into a 9 mile run. Considering my hip injury and the fact that it was probably the coldest run I've been on since college, it was a great run. It was also great to be out there with my old training partner again. This whole time that Paul has been visiting, I felt bad that I wasn't able to go running with him each day. So I'm glad we had that chance this morning before he left. I didn't have to go into work until noon today so we were able to take plenty of time to stretch, make breakfast, and just hang out for a while after the run. That concluded Paul's visit to Boston and he took a train back to NY this afternoon. As I said before, having him around this week has been really great and definitely gave me more motivation to get everything back on track.

As for the hip progress, I have been doing everything possible to speed up this healing process. I've been icing it every chance I get, stretching and massaging around the bruise whenever possible, taking Ibuprohen pretty regularly, drinking plenty of fluids, and I've almost polished off an entire crate of clementines. I actually think the clementines are what's done it for me because I had about eight of them today and the hip is feeling dramatically better than yesterday. I would have eaten the last four left in the crate but I didn't want my skin turning orange ...which I've been told is not a myth (at least with carrots anyway). So things are definitely improving faster than I originally thought, which is good ...obviously! Even though it's only been a week, I'm really itchin' to get back on the track. Hopefully I can do a moderate workout tomorrow and see how things progress from there.

More news to come....
