7:30 PM - 4 Miles, 28 min
Outside/Inside @ Reggie
The hip was feeling better today and as the day went on, I decided I would try running on it at practice tonight, just a little. I ran 3 miles with Rupprecht and Maloney on their warm up and it actually felt decent. I also tried doing some light strides and drills to test it out at different speeds. The bruised area is still very tender to the touch and is painful at times, but the swelling has gone down and general mobility seems to be improving. I think easy running on flat surfaces should be fine. However, I should probably stay away from stairs, hills, or any overstriding for the next couple days. Those are the things that seem to aggravate it the most.
I was definitely pleased to be able to be running today, something I wasn't planning on yesterday. It gives me some hope that I'll be back in the swing of things before too long. However, I'm sure I'll be dealing with some discomfort for a while longer. I watched my teammates and friends workout on the track tonight and I got very excited/jealous. Jess and Erin looked really great out there in their thousands, Rupprecht looked very smooth doing some speed work and there was just a general buzz in the air with everyone.. I was really glad to see them having good workouts and it just made me more eager to get back at it. I will be patient however and continue to take it one day at a time.
Lastly, I made the decision to scratch the Dartmouth Relays from my racing schedule tonight. This brings me down to three track races this indoor season. That isn't much, but I think it was definitely the right call and I'll still have opportunities to run fast. I think I should be ready to race by the 20th and will hopefully have enough time to get in the kind of racing I'm looking for. I know I have a good base built up and should be able to regain any lost fitness rather quickly. Therefore, I am still very optimistic about the upcoming season and will put everything I can into making it a success.
Stay tuned.
